Salmon Lives

Down to the river and down they go

Not big to swim, they head with the flow

Little creatures like minnows they are

You expect them in a life below par

But these creatures will be big and mean

They eat any and as much as they seem

Their pack will grow large and leery

Only the largest will stay with their soulless veering

But back to that river, now so small it is

To visit their birthplace to let out their fizz

They fight current and steps and birds and bears

They die in too high of numbers to car

For that one fish who wants to go on

To his final place as a fishlet he’s sawn.

Who says these creatures bare no souls

They are noble creatures from rocks and holes

To give up everything for those they don’t know.
