Tightening

Tightening

its grip over me

restricting movement

restricting free thought

We can’t escape from this thing

which holds us to the flame

was it worth it?

One missed and constricting.

Constricting as I lose mobility.

Must go to college

Must go

They say

But on whose bill?

I work and work

my skills unused

dormant

until when?

Go to college

Go to school they say

Who pushes this ideal?

Can’t escape

it constricts and constricts

But I will not let it take me.

I am more than a degree.

I am a real person

in a world that falsely promises

graduation equals elevation.
